After having darshan, what should I ask God
while sitting on the steps of the temple?

In Indian tradition, after visiting the temple, there is a provision to sit outside on the stairs. In ancient temples, there are separate platforms for sitting, but such platforms are not seen in modern temples. In such a situation, visitors sit on the stairs only.

It is a belief in Hindu religion that after having darshan, one should not beg God for car, bungalow, wealth, job, marriage, children etc. while sitting on the stairs. There, then only the following verse should be recited –

अनायासेन मरणं, विनादेन्येन जीवनम्।

देहान्त तव  सािन्नध्यं, देहि मे परमेश्वरम्।।

Anayasen maranam, vinadenyen jivanam.

Dehant tav sannidhyam, dehi me parmeswaram.

The meaning of this is, my death should be without effort (suffering), life should not depend on anyone and when I die, then I should be in your company, O Lord! Give me such a boon.
