Famous American writer Salman Rushdie was attacked on 12th Aug. 2022 in Western New York. Salman Rushdie, who was giving an interview at the Chautauqua Institution, was suddenly attacked with a knife by a young man sitting in the audience. He was stabbed in the neck more than 15 times. Rushdie sent to hospital by air ambulance. The attack is being linked to the controversy surrounding his Novel 'The Satanic Verses', against Iran's religious leader had issued a fatwa for 33 years, although the Iranian ambassador denied Iran's role in the attack.

भारतीय मूल के प्रसिद्ध अमेरिकी लेखक सलमान रुश्दी पर 12 अगस्त, 2022 को पश्चिमी न्यूयाॅर्क में जानलेवा हमला हुआ। चौटाउक्वा इंस्टीट्यूशन में मंच पर इंटरव्यू दे रहे सलमान रुश्दी पर दर्शकदीर्घा में बैठे एक युवक ने मंच पर आकर चाकू से एकाएक हमला कर दिया। उनकी गर्दन पर 15 से अधिक बार चाकू से वार किए गए। उन्हें एयर एम्बुलेंस से अस्पताल भेजा गया। फिलहाल उनकी स्थिति चिन्ताजनक है। इस हमले को उनके उपन्यास ‘दि सैटेनिक वर्सेस’ के विवाद से जोड़कर देखा जा रहा है, जिसके विरुद्ध 33 वर्ष तक ईरान के धार्मिक नेता ने फतवा जारी किया था। यद्यपि ईरान के राजदूत ने इस हमले में ईरान की भूमिका से इनकार किया है।
