The nine days from Pratipada to Navami of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra, Ashadh, Ashwin and Magha are called Navratra. Thus there are four Navratras in a Samvatsar, in which the Navratra of Chaitra is called 'Basantiya Navratra' and Navratra of Ashwin is called 'Sharadiya Navratra'. In these, special worship is done to the primordial power Bhagwati Durga.

Ghat-Sthapana
Basantik Navratra starts on the day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, hence Durga Puja and Ghat-Sthapana are done on this day. The person doing Navratra should engage in this work from a day before. He should fast in the evening remembering Mother Durga and on the second day i.e. on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, after retiring from bathing in the morning, he should resolve for Navratra, Ghat-sthapana and Durga-worship. After that the process of Ghat establishment and Durga Puja should be started.
