Chaturmasya Begins

Chaturmasya starts from the day of Devshayani Ekadashi. During this period the Lord resides in Patal with King Bali and returns after four months on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. Kartik Shukla Ekadashi is called 'Devprabodhini Ekadashi'. Marriages etc. are not auspicious during this period. Chaturmasya is a special festival of Ish Vandana. During the period of four months, taking a resolution and staying at one place, special practices should be done. Saints and sages stop at any one city or place in Chaturmasya and perform spiritual practices. There is special importance of fasting in Chaturmasya, the person who fasts during these four months, his wishes are definitely fulfilled. Apart from fasting, certain taboos should also be followed. Prominent among these taboos are:
1. One should sleep on the earth, 2. Complete celibacy fast should be followed, 3. Oil should be avoided, 4. Milk and curd should be avoided, 5. Jaggery-honey-salt etc. should not be consumed, 6 .Vegetables and rice should not be consumed, 7. Meat and alcohol should not be consumed, 8. Non-violence should be followed, 9. Asteya should be followed, 10. Always speak the truth, 11. Sacrifice of anger Should do, 12. Should have company of saints etc.
