Govardhan Puja

Govardhan festival is celebrated on Kartik Shukla Pratipada. As the name suggests, this festival is for the promotion of cow rearing. Lord Krishna, cows and bullocks should be worshiped on this day. In the evening, a lying idol of Govardhan is made from cow dung and worshiped. Chant the following mantra in worship:
गोवर्धन धराधार गोकुलत्राणकारक।
विष्णुवाहकृतोच्छ्राय गवां कोटिप्रदो भव।।
That is, Govardhan, who holds the earth, you are the protector of Gokul. Lord Shri Krishna carried you on his arms, you give me crores of cows.

गोवर्धन पूजा

कार्तिक शुक्ल प्रतिपदा को गोवर्धन पर्व मनाया जाता है। जैसा कि नाम से स्पष्ट है यह पर्व गौपालन के संवर्द्धन के लिए है। इस दिन भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण, गाय और बैलों का पूजन करना चाहिए। सायंकाल में गोबर से गोवर्धन की लेटी हुई प्रतिमा का निर्माण किया जाता है और उसका पूजन किया जाता है। पूजन में निम्नलिखित मन्त्र का जप करें :
गोवर्धन धराधार गोकुलत्राणकारक।
विष्णुवाहकृतोच्छ्राय गवां कोटिप्रदो भव।।
अर्थात् पृथ्वी को धारण करने वाले गोवर्धन आप गोकुल के रक्षक हैं। भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण ने आपको अपनी भुजाओं पर उठाया था, आप मुझे करोड़ों गौएँ प्रदान करें।
