Haritalika Teej

Haritalika Teej fast is celebrated on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya. This year this fast is falling on 30th August. By observing this fast, girls get a suitable groom and fortunate women get unbroken good fortune. On this day, after retiring from bathing in the morning, the fasting woman should resolve to observe Haritalika Teej fast. After that he should remain fast for the whole day. After bathing again in the evening, wearing pure and bright clothes should worship Shiva and Parvati. Maa Parvati should be offered a pair of honey and a honeycomb box. Lord Shiva should be offered five clothes like dhoti, kurta etc. After this, a fortunate woman should prepare thirteen types of sweets and present it to her mother-in-law. In the end, one should listen to the story of Haritalika Teej fast.
Fasting Story
When Mother Sati was burnt to ashes in her father Daksha's homa, then she took birth as the daughter of Maina and Himalaya and was called Parvati. Parvati wanted Shiva as her husband since childhood. For this he started doing harsh Shivaradhana. He did severe penance for Shiva by giving up food for years. When his penance was in full swing, it was at the same time that Devarshi Narada came to the Himalayas and proposed Lord Vishnu for marriage with Parvati.
Himalaya too was pleased to receive this offer and tried to persuade his daughter Parvati for it. Parvatiji fainted after hearing this proposal, when she regained consciousness, she again decided to go to the dense forests and worship Shiva. Parvati, along with her friends, went into a dense forest and started the penance of Shiva by establishing a Shivling in a cave on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. Soon Lord Shiva appeared to Parvati and also gave a boon to marry her as his wife. In this way, Parvati ji got a man-friendly and Shiva-like groom because of starting penance on the day of Haritalika Teej. From then onwards, women observe Haritalika Teej fast to wish for a suitable groom and to get unbroken good fortune.

हरितालिका तीज

भाद्रपद शुक्ल तृतीया को हरितालिका तीज व्रत मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष यह व्रत 30 अगस्त को पड़ रहा है। इस व्रत को करने से कन्याओं को मनोनुकूल वर तथा सौभाग्यवती महिलाओं को अखण्ड सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति होती है। इस दिन प्रातःकाल स्नानादि से निवृत्त होकर व्रती स्त्री को हरितालिका तीज व्रत करने का संकल्प करना चाहिए। तदुपरान्त उसे पूरे दिन निराहार रहना चाहिए। सायंकाल को पुनः स्नान करके शुद्ध एवं उज्ज्वल वस्त्र धारण करके शिव एवं पार्वती की पूजा-उपासना करनी चाहिए। माता पार्वती को सुहाग का जोड़ा एवं सुहाग पेटी चढ़ानी चाहिए। भगवान् शिव को धोती, कुर्ता आदि पाँच वस्त्र चढ़ाने चाहिए। इसके उपरान्त सौभाग्यवती स्त्री को तेरह प्रकार के मिष्टान्न बनाकर सास को भेंट करने चाहिए। अन्त में हरितालिका तीज व्रत की कथा का श्रवण करना चाहिए। 
व्रत-कथा
माता सती जब अपने पिता दक्ष के होमकुण्ड में जलकर भस्म हो गईं, तो उसके पश्चात् उन्होंने मैना और हिमालय की पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लिया और पार्वती कहलायीं। पार्वती बाल्यावस्था से ही शिव को पति के रूप में चाहती थीं। इसके लिए उन्होंने कठोर शिवाराधना करना आरम्भ किया। उन्होंने वर्षों तक अन्न त्यागकर शिव की कठोर तपस्या की। जब उनकी तपस्या फलोन्मुख हो रही थी, तो उन्हीं दिनों देवर्षि नारद हिमालय के यहाँ आए और उन्होंने पार्वती के साथ विवाह के लिए भगवान् विष्णु का प्रस्ताव रखा। 
हिमालय भी इस प्रस्ताव को पाकर प्रसन्न हो गए और अपनी पुत्री पार्वती को इसके लिए मनाने का प्रयास किया। पार्वतीजी इस प्रस्ताव को सुनकर मूर्च्छित हो गईं, जब उन्हें होश आया, तो उन्होंने पुनः घने जंगलों में जाकर शिव की आराधना करने का निश्चय किया। अपनी सखियों के साथ पार्वतीजी ने घने जंगल में जाकर एक गुफा में भाद्रपद माह में शुक्लपक्ष की तृतीया के दिन शिवलिंग की स्थापना करके शिव की तपस्या आरम्भ कर दी। शीघ्र ही भगवान् शिव ने पार्वती जी को दर्शन दिए और अपने पत्नी के रूप में वरण करने का वरदान भी दिया। इस प्रकार हरितालिका तीज के दिन तपस्या आरम्भ करने के कारण पार्वती जी को मनोनुकूल एवं शिवजी जैसा वर प्राप्त हुआ। इसके बाद से ही मनोनुकूल वर की कामना एवं अखण्ड सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति के लिए स्त्रियाँ हरितालिका तीज व्रत करती हैं।
