It is celebrated on Shravan Shukla Tritiya. It is celebrated in the memory of Mother Parvati's union with Shiva. While it is known as Hariyali Teej in western India, it is known as 'Kajjali Teej' in eastern India.
On this day women worship Goddess Parvati. Newly married women celebrate this festival by coming to their Pehar. A fast is kept on this day and special dressing is done. In Rajasthan, women wear an Odhni or Saree called 'Lahriya'. Mehandi is applied on the hands. Special pakwans are made and a swing is made by singing the songs of Shravan.
Special dances like Ghoomar etc. are performed in Rajasthan. On this Teej, there is a law to leave three things: 1. Cheating from husband, 2. Lies and misbehavior, 3. Blasphemy. Teej Mata rides are taken out in Jaipur city of Rajasthan and the fair is filled.
