D.K. Shivakumar was born on May 15, 1961 (as per birth certificate) in Kanakapura near Bangalore. His father's name is Kempegowda and mother's name is Goramma. He belongs to the Vokkaliga community. His elder brother D.K. Suresh is also a Congress MP from Karnataka. D.K. Shivakumar made his debut in politics as a student leader. In 1989, he contested the assembly elections for the first time and won it. He reached the assembly only at the age of 28. After that, he never looked back. Received the ministerial post in his first term. He continued to win assembly elections and his stature in politics continued to grow. In 1999, he did H.D. Kumaraswamy was defeated. He has defeated three members of the Deve Gowda family in the elections. He has won the 2023 assembly elections by a margin of 1,23,000 votes. He is considered among the richest politicians of India. In the 2023 elections, he had declared his assets worth Rs 1200 crore.
