Rakshabandhan, a festival symbolizing the love of sister-brother, is falling on the 11th of this month. Rakshabandhan is celebrated on Shravan Shukla Purnima. On this day the sister ties the brother's rakshasutra and the brother promises to protect the sister. On the day of Rakshabandhan, pakwans are made and pictures are made on the walls according to the vices and bhog is offered to them. On this day, the pundits tie the sutras of their hosts, the subjects of their king. The idea behind this is that they should protect them. Once Lord Krishna was hurt in his hand, then Draupadi tore the pallu of her sari and tied it in his hand. Shri Krishna had saved the shame of Draupadi in the assembly of Kauravas, considering her as a Rakshasutra. Rani Karnavati, the mother of Maharana Vikramaditya of Mewar, also sent a rakhi to the Mughal ruler Humayun to help him against the invasion of Chittor by the ruler of Gujarat and Malwa.
Story
Once in ancient times, there was a Devasura-battle for twelve years, in which the gods were defeated and the Asuras took control of the heaven. Sad, defeated and worried, Indra went to Devguru Brihaspati and said that at this time neither I am safe here nor can I get out from here. In such a situation it is necessary for me to fight, whereas in the war so far, we have been defeated. Indrani was also listening to this conversation. He said that tomorrow is Shravan Shukla Purnima, I will prepare the Rakshasutra in a lawful manner, you will get it tied with brahmins by self-reading. You will surely win by this. On the second day, Indra got Rakshabandhan done with the help of Raksha Vidhi and Swastivachan, due to which he was victorious. Since then this festival started being celebrated. On this day sisters tie Rakshasutra (Rakhi) on the wrists of their brothers.

बहिन-भाई के प्रेम का प्रतीक त्योहार रक्षाबन्धन इस माह 11 तारीख को पड़ रहा है। रक्षाबन्धन श्रावण शुक्ल पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन बहिन भाई के रक्षासूत्र बाँधती है और भाई बहिन की रक्षा का वचन देता है। रक्षाबन्धन के दिन पक्वान्न बनाए जाते हैं और दीवारों पर कुलाचार के अनुरूप चित्र बनाकर उन पर भोग लगाया जाता है। इस दिन पण्डित अपने यजमानों के, प्रजा अपने राजा के रक्षासूत्र बाँधती हैं। इसके पीछे भी धारणा यही है कि वे उनकी रक्षा करें। भगवान् कृष्ण के एक बार हाथ में चोट लग गई थी, तो द्रोपदी ने अपनी साड़ी का पल्लू फाड़कर उनके हाथ में बाँधा था। श्रीकृष्ण ने उसे रक्षासूत्र मानते हुए कौरवों की सभा में द्रोपदी की लाज बचायी थी। मेवाड़ के महाराणा विक्रमादित्य की माता रानी कर्णवती ने भी मुगल शासक हुमायूँ को गुजरात एवं मालवा के शासक के चित्तौड़ पर आक्रमण के विरुद्ध सहायता देने के लिए राखी भेजी थी।
कथा
प्राचीन काल में एक बार बारह वर्षों तक देवासुर-संग्राम होता रहा, जिसमें देवताओं का पराभव हुआ और असुरों ने स्वर्ग पर आधिपत्य कर लिया। दुःखी, पराजित और चिन्तित इन्द्र देवगुरु बृहस्पति के पास गए और कहने लगे कि इस समय न तो मैं यहाँ ही सुरक्षित हूँ और न ही यहाँ से कहीं निकल ही सकता हूँ। ऐसी दशा में मेरा युद्ध करना ही अनिवार्य है, जबकि अब तक के युद्ध में हमारा पराभव ही हुआ है। इस वार्तालाप को इन्द्राणी भी सुन रही थीं। उन्होंने कहा कि कल श्रावण शुक्ल पूर्णिमा है, मैं विधानपूर्वक रक्षासूत्र तैयार करूँगी, उसे आप स्वस्ति-वाचनपूर्वक ब्राह्मणों से बँधवा लीजिएगा। इससे आप अवश्य विजयी होंगे। दूसरे दिन इन्द्र ने रक्षाविधान और स्वस्तिवाचनपूर्वक रक्षाबन्धन कराया, जिसके प्रभाव से उनकी विजय हुई। तबसे यह पर्व मनाया जाने लगा। इस दिन बहिनें भाइयों की कलाई में रक्षासूत्र (राखी) बाँधती हैं।
