When all the three worlds became devoid of Srilakshmi!!

You know, once upon a time all the three worlds became Lakshmiless. It happened that the sage Durvasa, an incarnation of Lord Shankar, was roaming on the earth. While walking, he saw a divine garland of flowers (children) in the hands of a Vidyadhari.
He found that garland so attractive that after asking Vidyadhari, he put it on his head and started traveling further. Then they reached the heaven of Indra. At the same time, Devraj Indra was leaving to go somewhere. Devraj Indra was about to leave on his Airavat elephant when he met Maharishi Durvasa. On seeing Devraj Indra, Maharishi Durvasa became pleased. He bowed down to Indra with utmost humility and presented him with a garland of children's flowers.
Devraj Indra did not respect Durvasa's garland due to arrogance and, ignoring him, put that garland on Airavat's head. Airavat was also intoxicated at that time. He was neither recognizing Durvasa nor did he even respect the garland given to him. Airavata, being attracted by the smell of the rosary, wrapped it around his trunk, slowly started throwing it in pieces on the earth and finally trampled it with his feet.
Seeing this, Munivar Durvasa was very sad and he became very angry. The three worlds know Durvasa's anger. Durvasa, an incarnation of Lord Shiva, at that time seemed to be a catastrophic Rudravatar because of his anger. Seeing such a form of the sage, all the gods including Indra got frightened and trembled. He could not understand what happened that suddenly Maharishi got so angry? Maharishi Durvasa said to Devraj Indra, "You are very arrogant. You have not respected anything for the garland given to me. You neither bowed down to me nor even put the garland given by me on the head of the yard. Just as you have destroyed and corrupted the garland given by me on the earth, in the same way the 'Shri' of your Tribhuvan should also be destroyed. May your entire nation be humbled." On hearing this, Devraj Indra Airavat got down from the elephant and started pleading with Durvasa ji. Then, being satisfied with his obeisances and persuasion etc., Durvasa ji said, "I am not condescending. Forgiveness has no place in my heart, so I cannot forgive you." Due to the 'Lakshmiless' of all the three worlds under the rule of Indra, sacrifices were stopped there. The ascetics stopped doing penance and people were not interested in charity etc. Entire people became powerless due to being possessed by greedy bad qualities. Thus the demons and demons attacked the deities and they defeated the deities when the three worlds became shriless and sattvaless.

जब तीनों लोक श्रीलक्ष्मी से विहीन हुए!!
आपको पता है, एक समय तीनों लोक लक्ष्मीविहीन हो गए थे। हुआ यूँ कि भगवान् शंकर के अंशावतार दुर्वासा ॠषि पृथ्वी पर विचरण कर रहे थे। विचरण करते-करते उन्होंने एक विद्याधरी के हाथों मेंं (सन्तानक) पुष्पों की दिव्य माला देखी।
उन्हें वह माला इतनी मनमोहक लगी कि विद्याधरी से माँग कर उसे अपने मस्तक पर डाल लिया और आगे की यात्रा करने लगे। फिर वे इन्द्र के स्वर्गलोक में पहुँचे। ठीक उसी समय देवराज इन्द्र कहीं जाने के लिए निकल रहे थे। देवराज इन्द्र अपने ऐरावत हाथी पर बैठकर जाने ही वाले थे कि उन्हें महर्षि दुर्वासा मिल गए। देवराज इन्द्र को देखते ही महर्षि दुर्वासा प्रसन्न हो उठे। उन्होंने अत्यन्त विनम्रता से इन्द्र को प्रणाम किया तथा सन्तानक पुष्पों की माला भेंट कर दी।
देवराज इन्द्र ने अहंकारवश दुर्वासा की उस माला का समुचित सम्मान नहीं किया और उसकी उपेक्षा करते हुए उस माला को ऐरावत के मस्तक पर डाल दिया। ऐरावत भी उस समय मदमस्त था। वह न तो दुर्वासा को पहचान रहा था और न ही उनकी दी हुई माला का उसने भी सम्मान किया। ऐरावत ने माला की गन्ध से आकृष्ट होकर उसे अपनी सूँड़ पर लपेटते हुए धीरे-धीरे उसे टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर पृथ्वी पर फेंकना प्रारम्भ कर दिया और अन्त में अपने पैरों से उसे रौंद दिया।
यह देखकर मुनिवर दुर्वासा को बड़ा दु:ख हुआ और उन्हें अत्यन्त क्रोध हो गया। दुर्वासा जी के क्रोध को तीनों लोक जानते हैं। भगवान् शिव के अंशावतार दुर्वासा उस समय क्रोध के कारण साक्षात् प्रलयंकारी रुद्रावतार प्रतीत हो रहे थे। ॠषि के ऐसे स्वरूप को देखकर इन्द्र समेत सभी देवता भयभीत हो गए और थरथर काँपने लगे। उनकी समझ में नहीं आ रहा था कि ऐसा क्या हुआ कि एकाएक महर्षि को इतना क्रोध उत्पन्न हुआ है? महर्षि दुर्वासा ने देवराज इन्द्र से कहा, ‘‘तू बड़ा अहंकारी है। तूने मेरी दी हुई माला का कुछ भी आदर नहीं किया। तूने न तो मुझे प्रणाम किया और मेरे द्वारा दी हुई माला को भी गज के मस्तक पर डाल दिया। जिस प्रकार तूने मेरे द्वारा दी हुई माला को पृथ्वी पर फेंककर नष्ट-भ्रष्ट किया है, वैसे ही तेरे त्रिभुवन की ‘श्री‘ भी नष्ट हो जाए। तेरा सम्पूर्ण राष्ट्र श्रीहीन हो जाए।” ऐसा सुनते ही देवराज इन्द्र ऐरावत हाथी से उतरकर दुर्वासा जी से अनुनय-विनय करने लगे। तब उसके प्रणाम एवं अनुनय-विनय आदि करने से संतुष्ट होकर दुर्वासा जी ने कहा कि ‘‘मैं कृपालुचित्त नहीं हूँ। मेरे अन्त:करण में क्षमा का स्थान नहीं है, अत: मैं तुम्हें क्षमा नहीं कर सकता हूँ।” इन्द्र के शासन में तीनों ही लोकों के ‘लक्ष्मीविहीन’ हो जाने के कारण वहाँ यज्ञ होने बन्द हो गए। तपस्वियों ने तप करना छोड़ दिया तथा लोगों की दान आदि कर्मों में रुचि नहीं रही। सम्पूर्ण लोक लोभादि दुर्गुणों के वशीभूत होने के कारण सामर्थ्यहीन हो गए। इस प्रकार तीनों लोकों के श्रीहीन और सत्वरहित होने पर दैत्य और दानवों ने देवताओं पर चढ़ाई कर दी और उन्होंने देवताओं को परास्त कर दिया।
