Worship of Goddess Brahmacharini on the second day of Navratri

According to the scriptures, on the second day of Navratri, Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped. On this day the mind of the seeker is situated in the Swadhisthana Chakra. A yogi with a mind situated in this chakra receives his grace and devotion. Bhagwati Durga is the form of Shiva, Ganesha is the mother. These are famous by the names Narayani, Vishnu Maya and Purna Brahmaswarupini. 'Brahma charayitum shilam yasya sa brahmcharini sachchidananda' Those who have the nature to attain the form of Brahma, they are Brahmacharini. Brahma means the one who practices austerity. Here the word 'Brahma' means 'tapa'. According to this kosha word 'Vedastattvam Tapo Brahm', the words Veda, Tattva and Tapa are the meanings of Brahma. This is a grand idol of Goddess Jyotirmayi. He has a rosary of chanting in his right hand and a kamandalu in his left hand and is full of joy. This story is famous about her that she was Parvati Hemavati, the daughter of Himavan in her previous birth. Once she was engaged in sports with her friends. At that time Naradji, roaming here and there, reached there and looking at their palms said, "You will be married to the same naked-dangly Bhole Baba, with whom you were Daksha's daughter in the form of Sati, but for this you will have to do penance. Have to do it." After Naradji left, Parvati told her mother Maneka, "If I marry, I will do it only with Bhole Baba, otherwise I will remain a virgin." Saying this Parvati started doing penance. Hence her name became 'Brahmacharini'.
They spent 1000 years eating only fruits and roots. For a hundred years, he had subsistence only on vegetables. Keeping a strict fast for a few days, under the open sky endured terrible sufferings of rain and sun. After this difficult penance, she worshiped Lord Shankar for 3000 years by eating only the broken Bilva leaves on the ground. After this he also stopped eating dried bilva leaves. For several thousand years she continued to do penance without water and without food. Due to giving up eating even the leaves, she got a name 'Aparna'.
Due to this severe penance for several thousand years, that previous birth body of Brahmacharini Devi was completely degraded. She had become very grumpy. Seeing his condition, Mother Maneka became very sad.
Due to his penance, there was an outcry in the three worlds. Deities, sages, siddhas, sages all started appreciating Brahmacharini Devi's austerity as an unprecedented virtue. In the end, Pitamah Brahmaji, addressing him through Akashvani, said in happy voices, “O Goddess! No one had done such a hard penance until today. Such austerity was possible by you only. This supernatural act of yours is being appreciated all round. Your wish will be fulfilled all the best. You will get Lord Chandramauli Shiv as your husband. Now you abstain from penance and return home. Soon your father is coming to call you."
All the gods worship him. She is the beloved of Lord Shankar. His Leela character is very pure. The goddess said to the deities, "It is from me that the nature-purusha world arises. I am the destroyer of status and destruction, Mahavidya, Mahamaya, Mahamedha, Mahasmriti and Mahamohaswaroopa and I am also Darun Kaalratri, Maharatri and Mohratri. The goddess has also subjugated Lord Vishnu, who is the creator, condition and rhythm of the world, under yoga nidra and has been obstructed from taking the body only by Vishnu, Shankar and Brahma Devi. The Goddess has awakened the Lord to kill these demons by her influence. This Nirguna Swaroopa Devi, having mercy on the living beings, attains Saguna-bhava and performs the work of creation, maintenance and annihilation in the form of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. This second form of Maa Durga is going to give eternal fruits to the devotees and Siddhas. By worshiping them, there is an increase in austerity, renunciation, detachment, virtue, restraint. Even in the difficult struggles of life, his mind does not deviate from the path of duty. We pray to the Goddess to destroy our defilement, demerits and defects. On this, the goddess fights with the demonic forces within us, destroys them completely and saves us from terrible darkness and objections. By the grace of Mother Brahmacharini Devi, she gets success and victory everywhere.

नवरात्र में दूसरे दिन देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी का पूजन

शास्त्रों के अनुसार नवरात्र के दूसरे दिन मातृशक्ति देवी ‘ब्रह्मचारिणी’ का पूजन किया जाता है। इस दिन साधक का मन स्वाधिष्ठान चक्र में स्थित होता है। इस चक्र में अवस्थित मन वाला योगी उनकी कृपा और भक्ति प्राप्त करता है। भगवती दुर्गा शिवस्वरूपा हैं, गणेशजननी हैं। ये नारायणी, विष्णु माया और पूर्ण ब्रह्मस्वरूपिणी नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। ‘ब्रह्म चारयितुं शीलं यस्याः सा ब्रह्मचारिणी सच्चिदानन्द’ ब्रह्मस्वरूप की प्राप्ति कराना जिनका स्वभाव हो, वे ब्रह्मचारिणी हैं। ब्रह्म अर्थात् तप का आचरण करने वाली हैं। यहाँ ‘ब्रह्म’ शब्द का अर्थ ‘तप’ है। ‘वेदस्तत्त्वं तपो ब्रह्म’ इस कोष वचन के अनुसार वेद, तत्त्व एवं तप ब्रह्म शब्द के अर्थ हैं। ये देवी ज्योतिर्मयी भव्य मूर्ति हैं। इनके दाहिने हाथ में जप की माला और बायें हाथ में कमण्डलु है तथा ये आनन्द से परिपूर्ण है। इनके विषय में यह कथानक प्रसिद्ध है कि ये पूर्वजन्म में हिमवान् की पुत्री पार्वती हेमवती थीं। एक बार अपनी सखियों के साथ क्रीड़ा में रत थीं। उस समय इधर-उधर घूमते हुए नारदजी वहाँ पहुँचे और इनकी हस्तरेखाओं को देखकर बोले, “तुम्हारा तो विवाह उसी नंग-धड़ंग भोले बाबा से होगा, जिनके साथ पूर्वजन्म में भी तुम दक्ष की कन्या सती के रूप में थी, किन्तु इसके लिए तुम्हें तपस्या करनी पड़ेगी।” नारदजी के चले जाने के बाद पार्वती ने अपनी माता मेनका से कहा, “यदि मैं विवाह करूँगी, तो भोले बाबा से ही करूँगी, अन्यथा कुँवारी ही रहूँगी।” इतना कहकर पार्वती तप करने लगी। इसलिए इनका नाम ‘ब्रह्मचारिणी’  हो गया।
1000 वर्ष तक उन्होंने केवल फल एवं मूल खाकर ही व्यतीत किए। सौ वर्ष तक केवल शाक पर निर्वाह किया था। कुछ दिनों तक कठिन उपवास रखते हुए खुले आकाश के नीचे वर्षा और धूप के भयानक कष्ट सहे। इस कठिन तपस्या के पश्चात् 3000 वर्षों तक केवल जमीन पर टूटकर गिरे हुए बिल्वपत्रों को खाकर वह भगवान् शंकर की आराधना करती रहीं। इसके बाद उन्होंने सूखे बिल्वपत्रों को भी खाना छोड़ दिया। कई हजार वर्षों तक वह निर्जल और निराहार ही तपस्या करती रहीं। पत्तों को भी खाना छोड़ देने के कारण उनका एक नाम ‘अपर्णा’ भी पड़ गया।
कई हजार वर्षों तक इस कठिन तपस्या के कारण ब्रह्मचारिणी देवी का वह पूर्वजन्म का शरीर एकदम क्षीण हो उठा। वह अत्यन्त ही कृशकाय हो गयीं थी। उनकी यह दशा देखकर माता मेनका अत्यन्त दुःखी हो उठी।  
उनकी तपस्या से तीनों लोकों में हाहाकार मच गया। देवता, ॠषि, सिद्धगण, मुनि सभी ब्रह्मचारिणी देवी की इस तपस्या को अभूतपूर्व पुण्य बताते हुए उनकी सराहना करने लगे। अन्त में पितामह ब्रह्माजी ने आकाशवाणी के द्वारा उन्हें सम्बोधित करते हुए प्रसन्न स्वरों में कहा, “हे देवि! आज तक किसी ने ऐसी कठोर तपस्या नहीं की थी। ऐसी तपस्या तुम्हीं से सम्भव थी। तुम्हारे इस अलौकिक कृत्य की चतुर्दिक् सराहना हो रही है। तुम्हारी मनोकामना सर्वतोभावेन परिपूर्ण होगी। भगवान् चन्द्रमौलि शिवजी तुम्हें पति रूप में प्राप्त होंगे। अब तुम तपस्या से विरत होकर घर लौट जाओ। शीघ्र ही तुम्हारे पिता तुम्हें बुलाने आ रहे हैं।”
सभी देवता इनकी पूजा करते हैं। ये भगवान् शंकर की प्रेयसी हैं। इनका लीला-चरित्र अति पावन है। देवताओं से देवी ने कहा, “मुझसे ही प्रकृति पुरुषात्मक जगत् उत्पन्न होता है। मैं ही स्थिति और संहार करने वाली, महाविद्या, महामाया, महामेधा, महास्मृति और महामोहस्वरूपा हूँ तथा दारुण कालरात्रि, महारात्रि और मोहरात्रि भी मैं ही हूँ। देवी ने ही जगत् की उत्पत्ति, स्थिति और लय करने वाले साक्षात् भगवान् विष्णु को भी योगनिद्रा के वशीभूत कर दिया है और विष्णु, शंकर एवं ब्रह्मा देवी के द्वारा ही शरीर ग्रहण करने को बाधित किए गए हैं। देवी ने अपने प्रभाव से ही इन असुरों को मोहित करके मारने के लिये भगवान् को जगाया है। यही निर्गुण स्वरूपा देवी जीवों पर दया करक स्वयं ही सगुण-भाव को प्राप्त होकर ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश रूप से उत्पत्ति, पालन और संहार कार्य करती हैं। माँ दुर्गा का यह दूसरा स्वरूप भक्तों और सिद्धों को अनन्त फल देने वाला है। इनकी उपासना से मनुष्य में तप, त्याग, वैराग्य, सदाचार, संयम की वृद्धि होती है। जीवन के कठिन संघर्षों में भी उसका मन कर्त्तव्यपथ से विचलित नहीं होता है। हम देवी से अपनी मलिनता, दुर्गुणों और दोषों को नष्ट करने की प्रार्थना करते हैं। इस पर देवी हमारे भीतर आसुरी वृत्तिरूप जो असुरगण हैं, उनसे संग्राम कर उन्हें समूल नष्ट कर डालती हैं और हमें भयंकर अन्धकूपों और आपत्तियों से बचाती हैं। माँ ब्रह्मचारिणी देवी की कृपा से उसे सर्वत्र सिद्धि और विजय की प्राप्ति होती है।
