Yama Dwitiya
(October 26-27, 2022)

The second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is celebrated as Yamadvitiya. On this day Yamuna bath and Yama worship is done. In Yamuna worship, pray with the following mantra:
यमस्वसर्नमस्तेऽस्तु यमुने लोकपूजिते।
वरदा भव मे नित्यं सूर्यपुत्रि नमोऽस्तु ते।।
During the worship of Yamraj, pray to the following mantra:
धर्मराज नमस्तुभ्यं नमस्ते यमुनाग्रज।
पाहि मां किंकरैः सार्धं सूर्यपुत्र नमोऽस्तु ते।।
After that, by taking pure water in a conch shell or a copper vessel, pouring roli, akshat, flowers etc., should offer Arghya to Yamraj with the following mantra:
एह्येहि मार्तण्डज पाशहस्त यमान्तकालोकधरामरेश।
भ्रातृद्वितीयाकृतदेवपूजां गृहाण चार्घ्यं भगवन्नमस्ते।।
It should be noted that both Yamuna and Yamraj are brothers and sisters. Both are sons of Surya. Yam Puja eliminates the fear of premature death and the worshiper attains longevity.
Fasting Story
Yama and Yamuna are the children of Lord Surya. There was a lot of love between both the brothers and sisters, but Yamraj was so busy in the administration of Yamlok that he could not even go to Yamunaji's house. Once Yamunaji came to meet Yama. Yamdev was very pleased to see the sister come and said – Sister! I am very happy with you, whatever boon you want to ask from me, ask for it. Yamuna said - Brother! One who bathes in me on this day should not have to go to Yamlok. Yamraj said - Sister! This will happen. That day was Kartik Shukla Dwitiya. Therefore, Yamuna bath has special significance on this date.
On the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, Yamuna offered food to her brother Yama at her house and there was a big celebration in Yamlok. That is why the name of this date is 'Yamdvitiya', so on this day a brother should go to his sister's house and eat food prepared by her lovingly. This increases strength and affirmation. In return, the sister should be satisfied with gold ornaments, clothes and money etc. If you do not have a real sister, then the daughter of the father's brother, the daughter of the maternal uncle, the daughter of an aunt or an aunt, they are also like sisters, eat food prepared by their hands. The man who eats food from the hands of his sister on Yamadvitiya, he gets wealth, fame, life, religion, artha and unlimited happiness.

यमद्वितीया
(26-27 अक्टूबर, 2022)
कार्तिक मास के शुक्लपक्ष की द्वितीया को यमद्वितीया के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस दिन यमुना स्नान एवं यम पूजन किया जाता है। यमुना पूजन में निम्नलिखित मन्त्र से प्रार्थना करें :
यमस्वसर्नमस्तेऽस्तु यमुने लोकपूजिते।
वरदा भव मे नित्यं सूर्यपुत्रि नमोऽस्तु ते।।
यमराज की पूजा के दौरान निम्नलिखित मन्त्र से प्रार्थना करें :
धर्मराज नमस्तुभ्यं नमस्ते यमुनाग्रज।
पाहि मां किंकरैः सार्धं सूर्यपुत्र नमोऽस्तु ते।।
तदुपरान्त शंख अथवा ताम्रपात्र में शुद्ध जल लेकर उसमें रोली, अक्षत, पुष्प आदि डालकर निम्नलिखित मन्त्र से यमराज को अर्घ्य देना चाहिए :
एह्येहि मार्तण्डज पाशहस्त यमान्तकालोकधरामरेश।
भ्रातृद्वितीयाकृतदेवपूजां गृहाण चार्घ्यं भगवन्नमस्ते।।
ज्ञातव्य रहे कि यमुना और यमराज दोनों भाई-बहन हैं। दोनों ही सूर्य के पुत्र हैं। यमपूजा से अकाल मृत्यु का भय समाप्त हो जाता है और उपासक दीर्घायु  प्राप्त करता है।
व्रत-कथा
यम और यमुना भगवान् सूर्य की सन्तान हैं। दोनों भाई-बहिनों में अतिशय प्रेम था, परन्तु यमराज यमलोक की शासन-व्यवस्था में इतने व्यस्त रहते कि यमुनाजी के घर ही नहीं जा पाते। एक बार यमुनाजी यम से मिलने आयीं। बहिन को आया देख यमदेव बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और बोले — बहिन! मैं तुमसे बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ, तुम मुझसे जो भी वरदान माँगना चाहो, माँग लो। यमुना ने कहा — भैया! आज के दिन जो मुझमें स्नान करे, उसे यमलोक न जाना पड़े। यमराज ने कहा — बहिन! ऐसा ही होगा। उस दिन कार्तिक शुक्ल द्वितीया थी। इसलिए इस तिथि को यमुनास्नान का विशेष महत्त्व है।
कार्तिक मास के शुक्लपक्ष की द्वितीया तिथि को यमुना ने अपने घर अपने भाई यम को भोजन कराया और यमलोक में बड़ा उत्सव हुआ। इसलिए इस तिथि का नाम ‘यमद्वितीया’ है, अतः इस दिन भाई को अपने घर भोजन नहीं कर बहन के घर जाकर प्रेमपूर्वक उसके हाथ का बना हुआ भोजन करना चाहिए। इससे बल और पुष्टि की वृद्धि होती है। इसके बदले बहिन को स्वर्णालंकार, वस्त्र तथा द्रव्य आदि से सन्तुष्ट करना चाहिए। यदि अपनी सगी बहिन न हो, तो पिता के भाई की कन्या, मामा की पुत्री, मौसी अथवा बुआ की बेटी ये भी बहिन के समान हैं, इनके हाथ का बना भोजन करें। जो पुरुष यमद्वितीया को बहिन के हाथ का भोजन करता है, उसे धन, यश, आयुष्य, धर्म, अर्थ और अपरिमित सुख की प्राप्ति होती है।
